The Wheel of Life
The Wheel of Life is a powerful visual tool designed to help you step back and assess the different areas that make up your world. Each segment represents a key part of life. When you rate each one from 1–10, you get an honest snapshot of where you are today — not where you wish you were, but your current reality.
Many people want 10/10 in every segment. The truth? Life doesn’t work like that.
Success in one area often requires energy, time and sacrifice from another. What you focus on expands — and what you neglect can decline. The goal isn’t perfection in every segment.
The goal is awareness, alignment, and conscious decision-making.
Let’s break down each segment.
1. Health
This includes your physical health, mental wellbeing, energy levels, fitness, nutrition, sleep and stress management.
It asks:
Do I feel strong and energised?
Am I looking after my body and mind?
Do I prioritise recovery and self-care?
Health is often the foundation. But pushing career or finances hard can sometimes mean health slips. Equally, prioritising elite fitness may mean less time for business growth.
2. Career or Business
This represents your professional life — your job, business growth, purpose, performance, progression and achievement.
It asks:
Am I fulfilled in my work?
Am I progressing?
Does my work align with my values?
High achievement here often demands long hours and intense focus. That focus may come at a cost elsewhere if not managed intentionally.
3. Personal Growth
This is about development — mindset, confidence, learning, emotional intelligence, skills, spiritual growth and self-awareness.
It asks:
Am I evolving?
Am I challenging myself?
Am I becoming a better version of myself?
Growth requires time for reflection and learning. Without intention, it’s the first thing to disappear when life gets busy.
4. Fun & Leisure
This covers hobbies, creativity, enjoyment, adventure and downtime. The things that make life light and enjoyable.
It asks:
Do I have space for enjoyment?
When did I last do something just for fun?
Often sacrificed in the pursuit of productivity — yet this is what prevents burnout and keeps the wheel turning smoothly.
5. Love / Romantic Relationship
This represents intimacy, partnership, connection, communication and quality time with a significant other.
It asks:
Am I present in my relationship?
Are we growing together?
Do we make time for each other?
Relationships thrive on attention. When energy shifts heavily into work or personal ambition, this segment can quickly dip.
6. Physical Environment
Your surroundings: home, workspace, organisation, comfort and the environment you operate in daily.
It asks:
Does my environment support my goals?
Is it calm, organised and aligned with how I want to live?
Your environment either fuels progress or drains energy.
7. Family & Friends
This is your wider support network — connection, belonging, shared experiences and community.
It asks:
Am I investing in meaningful relationships?
Do I feel connected?
Am I present with the people who matter?
Time invested here strengthens resilience and happiness — but again, time is finite.
8. Money & Finances
This includes income, savings, security, investments and financial confidence.
It asks:
Do I feel secure?
Am I building long-term stability?
Am I in control of my finances?
Financial growth often requires intense focus and discipline. But chasing financial 10/10 may mean something else scores lower temporarily.
The Reality: You Can’t Maximise Everything at Once
If you look at highly “successful” people, you’ll often see a 9 or 10 in one or two segments — but perhaps a 4 or 5 somewhere else.
The elite entrepreneur may score 10 in business and 9 in finances… but perhaps a 5 in health or relationships.
The ultra-fit athlete may score 10 in health… but lower in finances or leisure.
There is always a trade-off.
The key question isn’t:“How do I make everything a 10?”
It’s:“What matters most right now?”
Reflection Exercise
If you looked at your wheel today:
Where would you honestly score yourself in each segment?
If you could improve just two areas over the next 12 months, which would they be?
What is within your control to improve them?
If you focused heavily on one segment, which other segment might temporarily dip?
Remember — you are in control. You make the decisions that shape your life.
Focus Drives Results
There’s a powerful book called Will It Make the Boat Go Faster?, written by Olympic rowing champion Ben Hunt-Davis.
The team made every decision based on one question:“Will it make the boat go faster?”
If the answer was no — they didn’t do it.
What if you applied that to your chosen segment?
If you decide to focus on your health:“Will this choice improve my energy and fitness?”
If you decide to grow your business:“Will this action move the business forward?”
Clarity simplifies decisions.
Your Next Step
Pick two segments.Commit to improving them.Accept that something else may need to hold steady — and that’s okay.
Balance isn’t about perfection. It’s about intentional focus.

Over the next 12 months, which parts of your life are you ready to increase?
