Do You Have a Fixed or Growth Mindset?

Take this quick test to find out

The way you think affects everything.

It shapes how you respond to failure, feedback, challenges, success, and new opportunities. In many cases, the difference between staying stuck and moving forward comes down to

one thing: your mindset.

Some people have a fixed mindset. They believe their ability, intelligence, or potential is set in stone.

Others have a growth mindset. They believe they can improve through effort, learning, and persistence.

Most people are a mix of both.

The good news is this: mindset can change.

Take the quick test below and see where you currently sit.

The Mindset Test

1. When I fail at something…

A) I see it as a chance to learn

B) I feel like I’m just not good at it

2. When something feels difficult…

A) I push through and try different ways

B) I avoid it or give up quickly

3. When I get feedback…

A) I use it to improve

B) I take it personally

4. When I see someone succeed…

A) I feel inspired

B) I compare myself or feel discouraged

5. When I try something new…

A) I’m excited to learn

B) I worry about failing

Your Results

Mostly A’s = Growth Mindset

You tend to see challenges as opportunities to learn and improve. You are more likely to keep going when things get tough, take feedback constructively, and believe that effort leads to progress.

Mostly B’s = Fixed Mindset

You may be more likely to doubt yourself, avoid challenge, or take setbacks personally. This can hold you back, but it does not define you. Awareness is the first step to change.

A mix of both = In between

This is where most people are. In some areas of life you may think with a growth mindset, and in others you may default to a fixed one. The important thing is recognising it and working on it.

Why mindset matters

Your mindset influences:

  • how you handle pressure

  • how you react to setbacks

  • how willing you are to learn

  • how confident you feel in the face of challenge

  • whether you grow or stay where you are

A fixed mindset can keep you playing small.

A growth mindset helps you build resilience, confidence, and momentum.

How to build a growth mindset

Here are a few simple ways to start:

1. Reframe failure

Instead of asking, “What’s wrong with me?” ask, “What can I learn from this?”

2. See challenge as part of growth

Growth rarely feels comfortable. Difficulty does not mean stop. It often means you are stretching.

3. Use feedback wisely

Feedback is not a personal attack. It is information you can use to improve.

4. Stop comparing and start learning

When someone else succeeds, use it as proof that progress is possible.

5. Add the word “yet”

“I can’t do this” becomes “I can’t do this yet.”That one word changes everything.

Final thought

Your mindset is not fixed for life.

With awareness, practice, and the right support, you can change the way you think, respond better to challenges, and become stronger in both life and business.

If this test made you think, that is a good place to start.
